Harry Potter Theme park

Sneaky behind the scenes of the new theme park at io9.
Yes, I am a big child. I love theme parks. I went on the Rocking Roller-coaster at MGM 5 times in a row. I have never backed down from downright scary rides, neither have I backed out from downright silly or childish antics either.
Clearly I have more in common with my nephews than my peers, but I would love to go to this themepark.
What also interests me is how they are going to bring a magical world to life technologically without breaking the fourth wall. Moving portraits can be done using LED screens for sure, moving stair cases for sure, the candy (which I have tried) is a done deal. What about wands and magic duels – it could be a very very cool computer game that is live action.
Yes, I am looking forward to this.
Nightmare on Elmstreet – rebooted

Just saw the trailer over on io9.
What can I say, Nightmare on Elmstreet was one of my favourite movies growing up. We saw the first movie when I was 11, back in 87, while travelling on a bus. In the end 20+ kids toppled out of the bus puking… I was not one of them. Will this be another attempt of hollywood to rape my childhood or will this be something completely… new? A good remake?
- From what I can see they flesh out the backstory – good.
- I can see some remade iconic moments – bad.
- They have taken elements from both the first and second films – good.
This means that if it would be a success then a sequel would not be a direct sequel of the second movie – even better.

The new Star Trek kicks ass!

I just came back from watching Star Trek. I am blown away. It was everything I hoped for and more.
When I first heard about the reboot of the franchise I was doubtful they would pull it off. They did though. The style is fresh, and without spoiling it for anyone who haven’t watched it, the old franchise is effectively buried with this movie.
It fluctuated between action, drama, wink-in-your-eye humor, and pretty good allround performances from all actors involved. Zachary Quinto makes a really emotional (wuh???!) performance as Spock, and captures Nimoy perfectly. Chris Pine really makes Kirk his own, and manage to capture both the talk, the walk and the punches of Shatner. Sometimes – it is truly eerie.
John Cho did a good Zulu, and my favourite… Simon Pegg… a really fantastic performance as Scott (My girlfriend does not agree, but that is because she just think of him in Spaced and Shaun of the Dead). Both funny and brilliant, like Doohan in his funniest scenes in all the original cast movies.
Karl Urban was a perfect Bones, and portrayed the cynical, bitter but heartwarming doctor with grace. Anton Yelchin’s Chekov didn’t have too much screen time, but a good performance none-the-less.
The supporting cast of Ben Cross, Bruce Greenwood, Winona Ryder and Leonard Nimoy, as well as Eric Bana as the demented Nero, was full on.
My only complaint is that the movie ended. Can’t wait for the sequel, or ANY “next generation” they might launch on TV.
It truly is a Star Trek like never seen before, but with all the right nods towards the original. No Klingons though, but that is only a good thing.
I am truly geeked out. Now I need to cook food.
TV4 Science Fiction – a swedish sci fi channel
- May

Being a huge sci-fi fan I am happy to discover TV4 Science Fiction – finally a swedish blog about Sci-fi.
To be honest, the only bleeding channel I ever watch. When will they stop with these pointless channelpackages at the satellite networks?
Here is what will kill off the tv-channels: When some enterprising individual decides that enough is enough, and start selling the shows instead of the channels themselves. Sure, special interest channels are good, but usually you miss something really good, just because they couldn’t negotiate the rights with the rights holders.
Oh you can do this allready with your computer – enter Miro. With Miro you can watch pretty much EVERYTHING that is broadcast on the web. You can download and watch youtube clips, podcasts from pretty much any RSS-feed, and it has a built in torrent client if you feel daring or use a service like Headweb or Ameibo.
Now the only thing lacking is an ability to stream to Xbox360 and media extenders, or a decent set-top box like pop-corn hour. Or if someone built a set top box that worked the same way, then I for sure would quit my satellite subscription. What is the point of having 30 channels that you never watch?
Any suggestions for solutions, please let me know.
