Google Latitude and State Latitude
I have started to use Google Latitude. I know, I am a privacy and piracy supporter, and the use of something keeping tabs on where I am all the time goes against these principles. Right?
Well, with the new laws dawning here in Sweden and the EU, I feel it is better to know exactly what kind of information the government want to keep track of.
If you don’t know it, here is a recap:
A proposal has been voted through the EU by a representative from Swedens Social Party. Its premise is that the government should keep track of all electronic communication (phone calls, email, sms, mms, IMs, surfing habits, etc.) as well as the positioning of where you are when you make these communications.
Of course the politicians calm everyone down with “Oh we do not care what you communicate (yet), only who, when and where, so we can make out the why if necessary”.
It goes against human and moral rights, and still politicians do nothing to stop this thing? (I generalise, but you get the drift)
At least with services like Google Latitude and lociloci, we decide WHO we want to share our positioning with (Look honey, I am almost home, check on google maps). But with these laws, infringing our human rights, the government basically take information about you, without your consent.
Question: If your government decided to open all your mail, or register to who and when you send an envelope to someone, would you sit idly by?
It is time to do something. It is time to show force when it comes down to vote for your government as well as the EU parliament. Send representatives who at least have backbone, and vote for parties that won’t back down when it comes to personal integrity.
This is why I vote for the Pirate Party in Sweden. The voting for the EU parliament is in just a few months. Make your voices heard.
